The Minocqua Brewing Company Super PAC Just Filed A Class Action Lawsuit to Unmask ICE in Wisconsin
While Wisconsin’s Attorney General Equivocates, We Filled the Void and Acted
Aug 31READ IN APP Minocqua Brewery owner and liberal activist Kirk Bangstad addresses reporters after filing a lawsuit in Dane County Circuit Court seeking to block former President Donald Trump from Wisconsin ballots in 2024. Anya van Wagtendonk/WPRToday, the Minocqua Brewing Company Super PAC filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of all Wisconsinites to unmask ICE and force them to display their name, badge number, and agency insignia.
Our lawsuit was filed on the heels of LRB 4042, a bill introduced by Wisconsin State Assembly Representative Sylvia Ortiz-Velez (D-Milwaukee) last week that seeks to effectively achieve the same goals as our lawsuit through legislative means.
Unfortunately, legislative Democrats in this state are in the minority and the Republicans in charge won’t pass this bill—because doing so would require them to muster up a level of courage that we haven’t seen since Trump turned them into a cult of personality years ago.
That’s why we filed our federal lawsuit in Wisconsin’s Western District. We hope that a judge on that court has the courage to meet the moment and protect Wisconsinites.
For months, we called on Wisconsin’s Democratic Attorney General, Josh Kaul, to file a lawsuit to unmask ICE. We gave him the legal arguments on how to do it weeks ago and even gave him a draft of our completed lawsuit last week.
We asked our email list of over 300K people to demand that Kaul 1) protect Wisconsinites from violent ICE agents who are racially profiling and illegally harassing U.S. Citizens and migrants alike, and 2) protect us from ICE impersonators--who get away with raping, assaulting, and robbing women because they look no different than real ICE agents who wear masks and hide their identities. We know that like us, several hundred of you wrote to Josh Kaul but have heard nothing back in return.
After weeks of waiting for someone to get back to us from the Attorney General’s office, and after our publicized deadline for him to respond by last Friday came and went, we filed our lawsuit this morning. We fully understand that our Attorney General should be doing this, not us, but here we are. Someone in this state needs to sue ICE, and if our AG isn’t willing to do his job, then we’ll do it for him.
If you’d like to read our suit in its entirety, here’s a link. It goes into detail about how ICE is currently violating our 1st, 4th, and 5th Constitutional Amendments by acting like a gang of thugs instead of respected law enforcement agents.
As I’ve said in previous articles, Wisconsin’s Department of Justice employs a cadre of good lawyers with taxpayer dollars to file lawsuits to protect Wisconsinites, and that’s why we harped on them for months to do this. We’ve learned throughout the years that lawsuits are very expensive, and the few that we’ve filed to rid Wisconsin of private school vouchers and to take insurrectionists off our ballots (Trump, Sen. Johnson, Rep.Tiffany, and Rep. Fitzgerald), consistently drained our coffers.
We much prefer to spend donated Super PAC money on helping elect Democrats every two years—not doing what our elected officials should already be doing.
That being said, some things are simply too important to ignore, and in this case, I feel it is absolutely crucial that we do everything possible to slow ICE down before the 2026 elections.
They’re harassing our citizens and immigrants now, but they’ll be harassing and intimidating voters very soon. The faster we can get judges to regulate them, the more likely that we’ll have safe and secure elections in 2026.
Folks, please help us fund this lawsuit by donating here. We were able to chip in about $10K to get this complaint filed, but we will probably need to raise about $100K to see this case through to the end.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for sticking with the Minocqua Brewing Company.
Together, we must throw sand in the gears of America's growing "Gestapo," not only to protect Americans and the immigrants within our borders from harm, but to protect Democracy itself.
