Flying the flag

The US flag is repugnant to me.

First of all, I don't think it even looks good.

Gore Vidal said it looks like proto op art!

Given all the US warmaking and backing of repressive regimes, the US flag might as well be the Nazi swastika in my opinion. Hitler would be envious of what the US gets away with with its warmaking and all that spending on "Defense" (50% of your federal tax dollars -- it never is appreciably cut and the Pentagon isn't even audited).

Repubs hate "throwing money at a problem" but vast sums are thrown at US "Defense" (Offense), no questions asked.

The Nazis studied the US's extremely discriminatory Jim Crow laws as a model on what they "should" do to "handle the Jews" (and were puzzled that the US considered Jews white).

Concentration camps? The Nazis noted how the US "rounded up" the Native Americans onto poor-land reservations not to mention the genocide.

Native Americans are killed by police at rates even higher than blacks.

All the unrest at present shows that the US has never come to terms with race, it being founded by slaveowners, and so forth.

"...and to the republic for which it stands..."

A guy named Sheldon Wolin argued that the US amounts to inverted totalitarianism as opposed to the "classic" Hitler or Stalin variety.

In short:

Chris Hedges and Joe Sacco portray inverted totalitarianism as a system where corporations have corrupted and subverted democracy and where economics bests politics.

"Corporations are people, my friend." --Mitt Romney

Even the ACLU supports corporate personhood.

And Wolin calls the Democrats an inauthentic opposition.

Recent example: only 2 articles of impeachment against Trump when there were 3 against Nixon and 25 proposed here:

Pelosi couldn't be bothered with impeachment until the Ukraine thing, limiting impeachment to only that and then she wanted it all over by Xmas.

The Dems wasted a lot of time waiting for slowpoke Mueller to deliver and that turned out to be essentially a dud.

 P.S.

On the Nazi reaction to America's "one drop rule," which maintained that a person with any amount of Black blood would be considered Black

That idea of the one drop rule, that was viewed as too extreme to [the Nazis]. It was stunning to hear that. ... The Nazis, in trying to create their own caste system, what could be considered a caste system, went to great lengths to really think hard about who should qualify as Aryan, because they felt that they wanted to include as many people as they possibly could, ironically enough, and as they looked at the United States, it did not make sense to them that a single drop of Black blood would make someone Black, that they could not and did not accept. And in defining and creating their own hierarchy, they ended up coming up with a different configuration that actually encompassed more people into the Aryan side than would have been considered than the equivalent would have been in the United States.

BTW, Obama conducted more drone strikes than his despicable predecessor (and Trump has increased rates further).

On foreign policy, the Dems and Repubs become virtually indistinguishable.

From 2016:
'Hillary has supported the deportations of immigrants, opposed the
refugees—women and children coming from Honduras, whose refugee crisis
she was very much responsible for by giving a thumbs-up to this
corporate coup in Honduras that has created the violence from which
those refugees are fleeing. She basically said, "No, bar the gates, send
them back." You know, so we see these draconian things that Donald Trump
is talking about, we actually see Hillary Clinton doing.'
