That is pretty simplistic.

About 50 000 US dead and about 3 000 000 Viet Namese dead. 60X as many Viet Namese casualties. Not to mention all that Agent Orange and so forth.

Chomsky argues that tho the US ultimately withdrew, it in many ways got its way cos it showed what the US would do to a small Communist country, other countries beware.

Of course a country doesn't have to even be Communist to run afoul of the US: Iraq, Afghanistan, et al.
