The 13th ArtRoot Racine Writer-In-Residence has been chosen...

Congratulations goes to Mark M Giese (pen name Mark M)!

Mark M was born in 1956 in Minneapolis, MN where he grew up in a western suburb called Minnetonka and relocated to Racine, WI in 1978 taking a job fresh out of college at Modine Manufacturing Company where he retired after 42 years. He has published zines, about 60 chapbooks, and has dabbled musically as half a duo called Inept with Dan Nielsen and with Atman Way (Jeff Baker) as The Two. He has never been married and is childless/childfree. His artist’s statement for his visual art is “Yes, your kid could have done that.”

As the 13th Racine WIR, Mark M will be posting weekly blogs on racinewir.com now through the end of December 2022. His posts will include material from his zines and chapbooks and other creative writing and opinion/commentary on current events and culture. He will also be interviewing local creatives. He plans to put his posts out every Thursday.

Lastly, he will be working to complete a community-based project where he will be inviting area people to send in prose or poetry, 250 words or less, to be considered for inclusion as “guest appearances” in his weekly blogs. To be considered, please email Mark M at m.mk@juno.com.
