Palestine/Israel: Two-state vs one-state
Re: the two-state vs one-state, this is a long
answer. I agree with Swanson entirely. Why should the world defend a
state that gives full citizenship rights to only one ethnic/religious
group? Palestinian citizens of Israel/Arab Israelis
are 20% of Israel’s population. But their status is akin to Blacks in
the Jim Crow south because there are over 60 laws that discriminate
against them—this is why Israel is an apartheid state even within its
borders.
Problems with two-state: the settlement blocks and what would happen to Palestinian citizens of Israel? Also, what about P’s right of return—Israel would never allow this within its current borders. The refugees are from what’s now Israel, even though some 80% of the villages from which they were expelled is now empty land. Salman Abu-Sitta, a Palestinian researcher, estimates this in his work.
