President-elect Trump’s nominees/Pam Bondi
If there’s one thing President-elect Trump’s nominees have consistently shown, it’s their skill at dodging direct questions about their qualifications, past actions, and willingness to push Trump’s far-right agenda.
This morning, Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, Pam Bondi, faced sharp questioning from the Senate Judiciary Committee, where her record and loyalty to Trump’s unconstitutional agenda came under scrutiny. While Republicans praised her, Senate Democrats pressed Bondi on critical issues – and her responses were nothing short of alarming.
Here are just some of the shocking answers (and non-answers) Bondi gave during the hearing:
- When questioned by Senator Durbin regarding the outcome of the 2020 election, Bondi REFUSED to state that Trump lost.
- Bondi also claimed there was a “peaceful transfer of power” after the 2020 election (apparently a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol where Capitol Police officers were attacked and members of Congress were forced to hide for their lives qualifies as “peaceful” to Bondi).
- When questioned whether she would investigate special counsel Jack Smith regarding his investigation into Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his mishandling of classified documents, Bondi deflected by stating “she hasn’t seen the file [regarding Smith’s investigation].”
- When asked by Senator Padilla whether Bondi would uphold birthright citizenship – a fundamental right enshrined in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution – she declined to answer, stating she “would have to study it.”
- Bondi refused to say that she would recuse herself from investigations that could arise that would present a conflict of interest, only saying she would “consult” with DOJ ethics professionals.
- And more!
These responses – and Bondi’s already troubling record – underscore the urgent need to defeat her nomination, and those of all of Trump’s extreme and unqualified nominees.
