Schedule Policy/Career threatens the functioning of our government
The civil servants who work on policies and programs that impact our lives should hold those positions because they have the qualifications, expertise, and experience to do the job well — not just because they’re deferential to a party or a president.
But Mark, the Trump administration is moving quickly to implement what it calls “Schedule Policy/Career,” which will politicize the civil service. At least 50,000 government employees could lose their civil service protections and become vulnerable to being fired at will. This puts key government functions at risk.
During President Trump’s first hundred days, his administration has made reckless cuts to the federal workforce, slashing programs and attempting to shutter agencies, creating chaos and an atmosphere of fear that is threatening how effectively the government can serve you.
Schedule Policy/Career is a classification of government positions that has the potential to make things much, much worse. Nonpartisan experts and whistleblowers could be one political disagreement away from losing their jobs. Crucial expertise could be further drained from agencies that make decisions about public health, national security, social security, infrastructure, the environment, and medicine — things that touch every aspect of your life.
The federal workforce is not a spoils system. It shouldn’t be wholly reshaped in a president’s image.
We are fighting to counter the politicization of the civil service and working to protect whistleblowers and nonpartisan experts. You deserve a government that puts your best interests above partisan politics. Give now to support our work defending an effective, accountable government.
