Investigate Trump raid on Washington Post reporter and end attacks on all journalists

Investigate Trump raid on Washington Post reporter and end attacks on all journalists!

Petition to Congress:
We urge you to investigate the FBI raid on Washington Post journalist Hannnah Natanson to determine if the FBI broke the law in targeting a member of the press. This is a critical step to ensure the First Amendment rights of journalists are protected from executive branch abuse of power.

Trump’s DOJ just arrested former CNN anchor Don Lemon for covering ICE protests in Minneapolis. Pam Bondi ridiculously claimed the protest was a “coordinated attack” and failed to explain the basis for arresting Lemon.1

Federal judges had already rejected the Trump administration’s attempts to get an arrest warrant for Lemon.2 But Trump and Bondi went after Lemon anyway.

This politically-motivated arrest comes just weeks after Trump’s FBI descended on the home of Washington Post journalist Hannah Natanson and seized her devices as part of a federal probe into a government whistleblower.3 Congress must investigate these attacks on the free press and the First Amendment.

While the Trump administration lies about the necessity of the aggressive raid on Natanson’s home, the facts suggest a far more disturbing motive: the weaponization of law enforcement to go after a reporter and her confidential sources within the federal workforce.4

The Washington Post’s executive editor told staff, “This extraordinary, aggressive action is deeply concerning and raises profound questions and concern around the constitutional protections for our work.”5

By arresting Don Lemon, the government is trying to scare journalists away from covering the events in Minnesota. The Trump administration is clearly waging an ongoing, unconstitutional campaign to intimidate the press into submission.

Congress must launch a full investigation into the FBI’s raid on Natanson’s home to expose the truth and determine if the Trump administration broke the law. Our lawmakers must protect press freedom immediately.
