Tell your state AG to stop MAGA takeover of CNN
 |
Last year, we saw how the Paramount/Skydance merger remade the media landscape for the worse: The Trump Administration didn’t approve the merger until CBS — a part of Paramount — agreed to settle a lawsuit brought against it by Donald Trump (many experts considered the lawsuit weak) After talk show host Stephen Colbert spoke out against the CBS settlement, the network decided not to renew his long-running show And once the merger was complete, CBS put a conservative in charge of its entire news operation
Now David Ellison, the CEO of Paramount-Skydance, and his father Larry are trying to suck Warner Bros. Discovery into their media empire. The Ellisons, who already own CBS and a large share of TikTok, are major supporters of Donald Trump. Handing them control of Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns CNN, would spell disaster for independent media in America.
More than 4,100 entertainment professionals — including notable names like Mark Ruffalo, Alyssa Milano, Bryan Cranston, Bradley Whitford, Jane Fonda, Jim Acosta, and Ted Danson — have signed an open letter opposing the merger. They’re concerned that allowing this merger to proceed would mean sweeping changes to CNN, like firing journalists, killing important stories, and replacing news with propaganda. And they’re also worried about the merger leading to huge job losses and less diversity in the entertainment industry and the stories it tells. When actors, journalists, directors, writers, and people across the country all speak up, it’ll be impossible for attorneys general to ignore us.
