I am confused. Here’s why.
In Racine, Wisconsin, the City Council consists of 15 members representing different areas across the city. Ironically, seven of those seats are occupied by black politicians. The big question is, why is our city still ranked among the top five worst places in the nation for black residency, and none of the black alderpersons have challenged the power structures that run the city to take their knees off of our necks?
Disclaimer: If I am wrong, I have no problem being corrected, but please don’t bring the usual BS, because after living here for 75 years, I have heard all the excuses but hardly ever the truth! If you are Black and scared, just say that. I understand the pressures of being Black in one of America’s worst metropolitan areas for Black Americans; however, you still don’t get a pass and are not invited to the family picnic.
Why is our city still ranked among the top five worst places in the nation for black residency, and no one even mentions it out loud? Some of us old-timers know why. Are you familiar with the word “sellouts”? Remember it’s like my friend Al Garner says, “all skin folk, ain’t kin folk.” I know that I sound arrogant, but I don’t mean to be! It just seems inconceivable to me that in 2026, Black politicians in Racine have not the fortitude to stand up and fight, damn, they might kill you, but they stopped eating us 100 years ago.
White supremacy is real, but it doesn’t always wear a white sheet or a hard hat. Modern members of anti-black organizations wear suits and ties and occupy more of your Black business than you realize. Some of these people pose as liberals/progressives with no intentions of fulfilling their empty bullshit promises or fulfilling their duties to their minority constituents.
Back to the business at hand, it just makes sense to me that if I vote for a Black politician to have equal status as a white politician, I expect this person, if elected, to fight the ultimate fight for my rights to be treated fairly and justly in our community. Black alderpersons and Black city officials need to understand that once your daily duties are finished and you leave the master’s house, you have the same target on your back that the rest of us carry 24/7, 365, and you are no more privy to the ranks of white privilege than Uncle Remus sitting in the back of the bus!

Chester Todd It is simple!! Party over People!! They could give a dam about the people and that is why we hear crickets. All we ask them to do is refocus on the reason why you were elected and the answer will be clear. They represent the people!! If not, say so! the community has a right to call these individuals out and put them out by the power of our voice which they have taken for granted for as long as I can remember. Do not come around to our community when it is time to herd us around like cattle going to the slaughter!
