Glaring inconsistency of the UN member states in their selective treatment of Charter and treaty violations was an example of hegemonic U.S. control of the UN

In the current atmosphere of media censorship and blacklisting, Nukewatch could at any time be targeted and slimed as one of Trump’s ‘non-profit terrorist’ groups. For all those donors who rely on the tax exemption, now is the time to maximize this advantage; we’ll maintain our 501(c)(3) non-profit status as long as possible, but a witch-himt is on, and we proudly continue to antagonize the war system.

Here are some highlights of what Nukewatch has been up to. Look for more in-depth coverage of many of these topics in the Fall Quarterly.

Nukewatch reports from Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference

‘Non-proliferation’ means preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. Nukewatch promotes non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament in a hundred different ways, sometimes enduring penalties for our nonviolent anti-nuclear actions. Our view is that there’s nothing more dreadful than nuclear weapons explosions targeted against human beings, so it’s essential that we abolish nuclear weapons and nuclear threats.

Co-directors Kelly Lundeen and John LaForge have attended several United Nations meetings regarding the Nonproliferation Treaty, or NPT, and the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). In April, John attended the first week of the recent 2026 NPT ‘Review Conference’ in New York City which ended May 22. He reported on the conference’s opening week for online news outlets, particularly the hypocrisy and double standards in what UN member states said about rules against transferring nuclear weapons among countries, and what they didn’t say about U.S. wars on Iran and Venezuela. Likewise, several NATO countries claimed the transfer of U.S. nuclear weapons to Europe is ‘fully consistent with the NPT’ which is patently false considering the Treaty’s Articles I and II which explicitly forbid any such transfers.

While the United States was actively waging a war of aggression against Iran, dozens of UN delegates ignored the U.S.’s blatant violation of the UN Charter and instead condemned Iran’s alleged violations of NPT rules. At, the, same time, UN members repeatedly condemned Russia’s war in Ukraine, while ignoring the U.S. military attack on Venezuela, the kidnapping of its president, and the U.S. Navy’s murder of civilian fast boat crews in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. The glaring inconsistency of the UN member states in their selective treatment of

Charter and treaty violations was a gloomy example of hegemonic U.S. control of the United Nations.

U.S. nuclear weapons in Germany

Nukewatch has often reported on the thermonuclear gravity bombs that the United States stations at the Biichel Air Force Base in Germany (and at five other NATO bases in Europe) in violation of the NPT. These H-bombs have been the object of protest and resistance for 30 years, and Nukewatch has organized several delegations of U.S. peace activists that joined annual protest action camps near the Biichel base. Resulting trespass convictions eventually led to 50 days incarceration in Germany for John in 2023, and to far longer sentences there for our friends Dennis Du Vail and Susan Crane. We three are the first U.S. citizens jailed in Germany for such protest actions against U.S. weapons stationed there. John will represent Nukewatch in Germany again this July, during the 30'*’ anniversary gathering for nonviolent action against the U.S. bombs at Biichel sponsored by Germany’s Nonviolent Action to Abolish Nuclear Weapons.
