Dear Mark M,
U.S. Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin visits the Boundary Waters nearly every year. He knows these pristine waters and dark sky - he has experienced their solitude and beauty firsthand.
Yet this spring, Senator Johnson voted "YES" to overturning the 20-year mining ban protecting the Boundary Waters. He voted "YES" to toxic copper mining within the watershed of America's most visited Wilderness. This did not go unnoticed. Save the Boundary Waters Action Fund just launched an accountability campaign across Wisconsin that includes targeted digital ads and a bold billboard that puts Senator Johnson's record front and center.
This wasn't a vote made out of ignorance. He knows the Boundary Waters. He knows what's at stake. And yet he sold it out to a foreign mining company.
Wisconsin ranks second in the nation for Boundary Waters permit holders. More Wisconsinites paddle these waters than almost anyone. The Boundary Waters is not a Minnesota issue. It is a Wisconsin issue. And Senator Johnson chose to sell out a place he personally enjoys rather than stand up for the people he represents.
We refuse to let this vote go unnoticed.Rush a gift today to help us ensure Wisconsin voters know exactly how Senator Johnson voted and what is at stake for the Boundary Waters.
For the Wilderness,
Amanda Hefner
