They are trying to rig the midterms

Mark,
Republicans are reading the polls, seeing the backlash coming, and racing to lock in power before voters can hold them accountable.
And last night, the Supreme Court’s right-wing majority just gave them another opening.
In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court cleared the way for Alabama to use a congressional map that eliminates a majority Black district and gives Republicans a major advantage heading into the 2026 midterms.
A three-judge federal panel had blocked this map after finding it intentionally discriminatory. But the Supreme Court’s ultra-conservative majority stepped in and allowed Alabama to move forward anyway, letting Republicans swap out the current map for one that could help them flip a seat back into their column.
This is exactly what voting rights advocates warned would happen after the Supreme Court weakened the Voting Rights Act in Louisiana v. Callais.
Instead of changing course, Republicans are using the courts and state legislatures to change who has power in our elections.
This is bigger than Alabama.
Across the country, Republican politicians are treating this ruling like a permission slip. If they can weaken voting rights protections, revive discriminatory maps, and count on the Supreme Court to look the other way, they can tilt the 2026 elections before voting even begins.
That is their strategy and their priority.
Not putting a stop to using taxpayer money to fund Trump’s vanity projects. Not putting a stop to administration actions that line the pockets of Trump and his MAGA allies. Not even acknowledging, let alone addressing, the needs of the American people.
Rig the maps. Weaken the rules. Silence the voters they fear. Then claim a mandate they did not earn.
People For is fighting back by exposing the extremists driving these attacks, mobilizing supporters to demand action, pushing for fair courts and fair maps, and making sure voters understand what is being done to their rights before the 2026 elections.
But we need the resources to keep that work moving at the scale this moment demands.
The fight for 2026 is already underway in courtrooms and state legislatures.
Alabama is just the latest proof that Republicans will use every lever they can to tilt the map before voters ever get a say.
If we do not meet this moment with the urgency it demands, they will succeed.
Thank you,
Zach VanHouten
