Not enough people are talking about this
Mark, CREW’s President Donald Sherman recently joined C-SPAN to discuss a specific part of Trump’s IRS settlement that not enough people know about.
The DOJ is keeping the part of Trump's IRS settlement in place that shields Trump, his family and his businesses from IRS audits.
You read that right. This provision essentially protects the president and his family from audits—both looking backward and forward. In many ways, it’s a get-out-of-jail-free card for the Trump family.
Here’s what you need to know:
Trump sued the IRS for $10 billion and created a $1.8 BILLION slush fund as a settlement for his absurd lawsuit against the agency. The settlement was secretly negotiated by Trump’s personal attorneys and the Department of Justice, which he controls—a blatant and corrupt conflict of interest.
We sued quickly to shut down the illegal, corrupt fund and it looks like our pressure is working: the Trump administration has said in court that they are abandoning the slush fund, and they’ve been warned by a judge that they will be held accountable if they aren’t being honest.
But unfortunately, it seems the provision barring audits of the Trump family is here to stay.
This is absurd and outrageously corrupt. Not enough people are talking about this.
As always, CREW is on the front lines of exposing corruption and holding our government accountable. We’ll keep pushing to shut down this entire corrupt settlement, but we need your support. |
