Friend, the attorney general nominee has made clear their loyalty to the president. Not to you, not to the law, not to justice.   The Department of Justice is not the president’s personal law firm. It works for the people, not the president.   Anyone who is unclear on that fact has no business being attorney general.   Todd Blanche had his confirmation hearing to lead the DOJ last week. What we witnessed there confirmed what we already knew.   Blanche is unfit to be your attorney general. Granting him that position would be disastrous for the balance of power in our government, for the rule of law, and for your civil rights.   We can block this confirmation if we make enough of a ruckus — we’ve done it before. Demand that Congress reject his nomination. Add your name to the petition.

It’s hard to overstate how consequential the role of attorney general is, friend. The person in that position leads more than 100,000 staff at the Department of Justice (DOJ), serves as chief law enforcement officer of the federal government, provides legal counsel for the executive branch, and is one of the principal arbiters of law and justice for the country.   The attorney general works closely with the White House, yes — but they are independent from it. Blanche has shown time and time again that he does not care for that dividing line.   Since joining the Justice Department, he has played along with the president’s whims to weaponize the DOJ:

Under his leadership as deputy director, the DOJ gave into Trump’s demands to prosecute a whole hit list of perceived political foes, including former FBI Director James B. Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook and Chair Jerome Powell, former CIA Director John Brennan, and several members of Congress.  He became the public face of the $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization” slush fund for the president as part of a settlement on the bogus Trump v. IRS case. He also helped author the settlement that gave the president and his family sweeping immunity from audits of their past taxes.  He closed a federal investigation into border czar Tom Homan, who faced no consequences after he’d been reportedly recorded accepting a $50,000 bribe from undercover FBI agents posing as businessmen who wanted to win immigration contracts under the Trump administration.  He participated in the DOJ's flouting of lower court orders on matters related to immigration enforcement, due process, spending cuts, the Epstein files, and much more.

You don’t need to speculate what Blanche would be like as attorney general because you’ve already seen the damage he’s done as deputy and acting attorney general. And you’ve seen enough. His actions, words, and conflicts of interest have disqualified him.   Here's how we stop it: Congress still has to vote on his confirmation, and lawmakers respond to public pressure, but only if enough people speak up.      You deserve an attorney general who stands for justice, not someone who bends their knee to the president.    — POGO
