👋 Dear Mark M,
Have you noticed that certain physical sensations seem to appear on one side of the body over the other? A persistent tightness on the right, an ache that settles more on the left? These are not random occurrences. According to Seth, the body often becomes the messenger when the conscious mind and the subconscious fall out of partnership.
He stated clearly that the personal subconscious and the ego are equal partners in the formation of any present personality. The subconscious is more fluid and resilient than the ego, freer from the narrow moment-point focus that limits conscious awareness. It can inform the conscious mind of important developments, if the conscious mind is willing to listen.
When that listening does not occur, the subconscious must find other ways to be heard. Illnesses and various physical symptoms, Seth explained, are often simply the subconscious trying to speak out to an unheeding conscious mind. If the conscious mind begins to consult with the subconscious as a true partner, those “nagging or sometimes explosive” physical efforts become unnecessary.
The ego, by its nature, tends to prefer mastery over partnership. It would rather the subconscious disappear. Yet almost the entire survival of the organism rests with the subconscious. The failure of the ego to listen is therefore the root of many difficulties.
💬 Quote of the Week
“Symptoms in this case with the right hand or on the right side of the body, represent difficulties in the conscious realms. Symptoms of the left hand or left portions of the body represent difficulties from subconscious levels, and both represent failures between the conscious and subconscious portions of the self.”

🔬 Integration: Restoring The Partnership
The remedy is both simple and profound: restore the partnership. Joy and the spontaneous expression of emotion themselves become bridges. Emotion, Seth tells us, is an automatic signal that unites the conscious and subconscious in shared experience, opening a greater flow of energy from the primary source of action.
This understanding gives us a precise and compassionate way to interpret what the body is trying to convey.
This week, practice treating your subconscious as the equal partner it is.
Notice any left- or right-sided sensations. Simply acknowledge them as possible indicators of where communication may need attention.
Speak to your subconscious with respect, silently, in writing, or with the pendulum (which Seth called an excellent practical tool for reaching the personal layers of the subconscious).
Allow small moments of spontaneous joy or honest feeling. These expressions reopen the channels.
Before sleep, offer this suggestion: “I now open clear, respectful communication between my conscious mind and my subconscious. We work together as equal partners.”
You do not need to force results. The subconscious is already waiting for the conscious mind to stop trying to dominate and begin listening. When the two portions of the self consult one another again, the body no longer needs to shout, and a deeper strength, clarity, and creative energy become available.
