They were shot with pepper balls for filming it
Dear Reader,
Covering the raids has become dangerous work.
In January, journalists covering immigration raids in Minneapolis were hit with pepper balls, knocked down and tear gassed. The Press Freedom Tracker counted at least nine assaults on the press in that city in a single month. One photographer was arrested, hospitalized, and still faces charges.
Minneapolis is also where CBP agents killed a VA nurse and union member this summer, the second US citizen killed there by federal agents in a matter of weeks. We covered it, because somebody has to.
Those are the same story. This reporting happens when a newsroom can put someone in front of it and stand behind them afterward. No advertiser has ever wanted to pay for that.
