A whistleblower says USPS could “derail” the midterms

A whistleblower with direct knowledge of the U.S. Postal Service’s plans is warning that the agency could “derail” the midterm elections and prevent enormous numbers of eligible voters from receiving their mail ballots in time, or at all.
USPS has reportedly been racing to launch a secretive, untested system designed to carry out President Trump’s executive order asserting federal control over vote by mail. A federal judge temporarily blocked the agency’s plan after finding that it was likely illegal.
But according to the whistleblower report, USPS continued developing the system anyway.[1]
The system’s reported design is staggering. If even one barcode on one ballot fails to scan properly, an entire batch containing tens of thousands of ballots could be rejected. Those ballots could be trapped in repeated verification cycles, preventing states from mailing them until it is too late for voters to return them.
One failed scan could stop tens of thousands of ballots from being mailed, stripping eligible voters of their chance to vote before they even know anything has gone wrong.
And this is not happening in isolation. At the same time USPS is reportedly preparing a system that could stop ballots from being mailed, the Department of Homeland Security is launching a “coordinated criminal voter fraud investigation surge” in nine states, several of which could decide control of Congress.[2] The Trump administration is mobilizing the power of the federal government to interfere with the midterms just as voters begin casting their ballots.
Control of Congress could be decided by a handful of close races. We have no time to waste preparing voters for the chaos Trump is creating.
Trump has spent years spreading lies about voting by mail. Now his administration is attempting to use the Postal Service itself to impose new barriers, disrupt the delivery of ballots, and interfere with how states run their elections.
The administration’s goal is clear: seize greater control over vote by mail and use it to make voting harder. If Trump succeeds, eligible voters could be denied their ballots, thousands of votes could go uncast or uncounted, and MAGA candidates could remain in power because voters were prevented from having their say.
We cannot allow a rushed, untested system to decide who controls Congress.
People For is preparing an aggressive voter mobilization campaign across the states and districts that could determine the outcome of the midterm elections. We need to reach mail voters early and repeatedly, urge them to request and return their ballots as soon as possible, and direct them to secure alternatives if their ballots are delayed or never arrive.
That work must begin now. Every day we wait means fewer voters reached, fewer ballots tracked, and less time to overcome whatever new obstacles Trump’s administration puts in their path.
In just over two months, voters will have the chance to break the MAGA grip on Congress and finally place a check on Trump’s abuses of power. But before they can make that choice, we have to make certain they are able to vote.
