  Last night, the Supreme Court ruled against Donald Trump’s attempt to distort the upcoming midterm elections by enlisting the United States Postal Service in his flagrant campaign to disenfranchise potentially millions of eligible voters.
  
  This is a major victory.
  

  • It prevents an election chaos scenario that Trump was trying to engineer and it preserves vote-by-mail as an option for Americans in the majority of states that offer it.

  • Public Citizen litigated to challenge what the Trump Regime was trying to do with the USPS. Other organizations and entities filed a slew of lawsuits about the same issue. Last night’s ruling was related to one of those other cases.

  • Trump’s attempt to weaponize the Postal Service was illegal, undemocratic, and needed to be stopped. So this Supreme Court ruling is very welcome news.

  • But this scheme to weaponize the Postal Service is just one of countless ways the Trump regime and MAGA Republicans are actively interfering with our democracy.

  • And just by pursuing these tactics, they are introducing uncertainty into our elections and sowing doubt about our democracy — which we know can confuse voters and reduce turnout.

  While we celebrate last night’s ruling, we can’t let our guard down for a second. Public Citizen — as we have been since our founding 55 years ago — will be on the front lines to defend democracy.
  
  That means organizing voter education initiatives and early voting drives, including the nationwide No Kings: Vote Early day of action coming up on October 17.
  
  That means fighting the billionaire and Big Business spending that corrupts our elections, including our ongoing campaign for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United (a campaign we launched literally minutes after the Supreme Court handed down that disastrous ruling on January 21, 2010).
  
  That means continuing to file lawsuits against the Trump regime (51 lawsuits and counting since Trump returned to power).
