Thanks to everyone who contacted their state attorneys general, 12 states sued to block Paramount-Skydance’s takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. David Ellison, the CEO of Paramount-Skydance, and his father Larry already own CBS and a large share of TikTok. They’re also major supporters of Donald Trump. Handing them control of Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns CNN, would spell disaster for independent media in America. This merger, if allowed to go through, would likely jack up prices for consumers, cost workers their jobs, and limit the range of viewpoints allowed to air on major media channels or appear in movies and other creative outlets. But while we’re trying to stop the merger, Paramount has tried to bully state attorneys general and merger critics and threatened to leave California. Paramount is trying to pressure state attorneys general to settle out of court and give the company major concessions that would fail to protect workers and consumers from harmful media consolidation. |
