The disclosure to Congress alleges that USPS is secretly and chaotically building untested election tech systems — and may be continuing that work despite court orders. And it's all happening JUST as mail-in voting is set to begin.
Let's be clear: this isn't about "security." It's USPS carrying out Trump's blatant, calculated effort to suppress votes. And we refuse to allow the USPS Board of Governors to do Trump's dirty work for him.
Mail-in voting is safe, reliable, and crucial — especially for young, disabled, and marginalized voters who face obstacles getting to the polls. But Trump, who votes by mail himself, is coming after it as part of his voter suppression plan.
Now, Postmaster General David Steiner is rushing to ensure USPS falls in line with Trump's scheme, preventing election ballots from being delivered to voters who are not included on a "verified citizenship" list.MILLIONS of mail-in ballots are at risk because this system relies on citizenship databases that election officials have ALREADY found to be inaccurate. And if just ONE ballot in a 10,000-ballot batch doesn't properly scan, the entire shipment could be rejected and returned to the state!
As of now, the Supreme Court has not ruled on whether Trump's executive order is constitutional. But Steiner has finalized the rule anyway.
The USPS Board works for US — not Donald Trump, not corporate lobbyists, not partisan hacks. They must reverse course ASAP.
