Mark, Trump ran for office promising the American people that he would target criminals and the “worst of the worst” in his immigration enforcement. It was a flat out lie.
Instead, he turned ICE into a secret police force that has terrorized and killed immigrants and US citizens alike.
According to Pro Publica, at least 500+ American citizens have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint, or held against their will in Trump’s second term. At least 70 of them were children.
In one instance, a 15-year-old with disabilities was handcuffed outside a school when ICE agents “mistook” him for an alleged gang member.
ProPublica also reports that of over 100 Americans who have been held after ICE agents questioned their citizenship, nearly all of them were people of color.
ICE’s strategy is clear: Arrest Black and Brown people first, figure out their citizenship status later, the rule of law and the Constitution be damned.
We saw this firsthand when ICE came to Minneapolis to harass Somali-Americans, a community in which over 95% of people are American citizens. That witch hunt ended with two American citizens shot dead and thousands of people harassed, beaten, and detained indefinitely.
We must abolish ICE and hold them accountable for this fascist reign of terror.
