Major update on lawsuit to stop Trump's vanity arch
major update on lawsuit to stop Trump's vanity arch
- We have a major update on our lawsuit to stop Donald Trump’s vanity arch.
- As you probably know, Trump wants to erect a huge arch in Washington, D.C. — just outside the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, across from the Lincoln Memorial — to glorify himself.
- Earlier this year, Public Citizen — representing Vietnam War veterans and others — filed a lawsuit in federal court to stop construction of the arch.
- To be very clear, starting construction would be patently illegal. Building a monument like this requires approval from Congress, and Congress has not authorized it.
- Nevertheless, on October 21, the Trump regime indicated that it might begin construction as soon as next week.
- The very next day, October 22, we filed a motion for a preliminary injunction asking the court to stop construction from starting while our case goes forward.
- We asked the court to rule on our motion by November 4.
- Meanwhile, we are gearing up to respond if construction begins in violation of the law or contrary to the court’s orders.
If you’ve donated to Public Citizen before, thank you. If a donation is not right, we understand. Either way, thank you for being part of Public Citizen.
