Nader -- Sherrod Brown told the Columbus Dispatch on October 12th he 'would not support an impeachment of Trump'

Senate Candidate Sherrod Brown’s Betrayal of the Constitution

By Ralph Nader

October 16, 2026

In a stunning, morally corrupt move, Ohio Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown told the Columbus Dispatch on October 12th he “would not support an impeachment of Trump. There’s just simply no reason for that, no matter what happens in the midterms.”

What planet is he on?

This is why so many people are disgusted with political opportunism. Previously, as a Senator from Ohio, self-branding himself as a progressive, Brown voted twice to impeach Trump in 2020 and 2021. Trump’s transgressions for those articles of impeachment (aside from the charge of inciting insurrection) were far lesser charges compared to the impeachment charges proposed for the current offenses of the corrupt, MAGA outlaw, spewing violence, crazed, vicious actions domestically and abroad, enriching himself through bribes and extortion, and eliminating wholesale life-saving protections for Americans, from successful programs fully supported by Mr. Brown when he was a Congressman and Senator.

What’s worse politically for Brown is that about 90% of Democrats want Trump’s impeachment  now, along with almost two-thirds of independents, according to well-regarded pollster Celinda Lake.  Trump’s poll numbers have plunged further since the April 2026 poll was taken. (See H. Res 1155.)

So, just what is Brown’s duplicitous explanation that “there is simply no reason for impeachment” for the most impeachable president in history, openly boastful that “I, [Trump] can do whatever I want,” and illegally proves it every day?

Let’s walk Brown down memory lane, and indirectly, the sly Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer, who knew but did not object to Brown joining the Trumpsters and abdicating the responsibility to exercise the constitutional duty to address impeachable misconduct and decide whether particular conduct warrants impeachment and conviction. (See Capitol Hill Citizen: “Impeach Trump? Public says yes, but Democratic leaders say no.” This crucial constitutional duty is exclusively assigned to members of Congress.

1. Trump daily usurps the exclusive spending power of Congress by unilaterally spending taxpayer dollars in multiple illegal and destructive ways.

For example, he funded the overthrow and annexation of Venezuela illicitly, seizing control of its vast oil resources. This ongoing violation of Congressional authority is outrageous. He funded, with Israel, the war on Iran with usurped taxpayer dollars. This undeclared war has led to military assaults in neighboring countries, U.S. fatalities, destroyed U.S. bases, and violated five federal statutes, including the Leahy Amendment.) He has spent taxpayer dollars on his many vengeful pursuits, on political Trump-centric ads, splurged on the Mexican border wall, and paid dictatorial regimes to accept illegally deported people, often separating parents and children with no due process.
Sherrod Brown, don’t you think these are reasons for impeachment?

2. Trump daily violates the Declare War Clause, exclusive to Congress. Just today, he was boasting about dropping the Pentagon’s largest bombs on Iran, post-election, extending many declarations about which countries he is attacking or threatening to attack. The Constitution vests exclusively in Congress the power to declare war. Our Founding Fathers believed s putting this power in hands of Congress was their most important contribution to preventing unjustified wars and preventing future monarchs.

Mr. Brown, does any of these war crimes, including continuing Biden’s co-belligerency, in backing Netanyahu’s genocidal mass slaughter in Gaza, give you pause from your sudden defection?

3. Trump has illegally torn asunder Congressional mandated health, safety, environmental, and consumer protection agencies and enforcement programs, that save the lives, health, and safety of millions of Americans. Trump illegally, he and Elon Musk’s criminal rampage, DOGE, closed the Agency for International Development and condemned millions of children and vulnerable parents in impoverished countries to death between early 2025 and 2030, according to eyewitness reports (see The Children America Abandoned by Nicholas Kristof of The New York Times, May 10, 2026), and Boston University researchers. This act is totally illegal and criminal.

Whether it is the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the EPA, or NHTSA, or the IRS budget cuts and large staff firings, Trump with his agent Elon Musk perpetuated massive impeachable offenses, totally contrary to your former positions and a totally impeachable physical rampage through the offices of dedicated, about-to-be-fired civil servants.

Musk’s operatives obtained access to sensitive government data, violated people’s privacy and raised serious conflict-of-interest concerns.  Members of Congress should be asking how these actions have paved the way for future profits by Musk and his marauders. (See Washington Post, October 12, 2026: “They came to Washington to dismantle government. Now, they’re profiting from it.”) Mr. Brown is this not enough reason for you to support impeaching Donald Trump?   What will you tell the parents of babies and toddlers exposed to Trump permitting the sale of specific pesticides and the release of toxic air pollutants, especially dangerous to these youngsters.

4. What about the unprecedented corruption of Trump and his Trumpsters? From his own 2025 financial disclosures, his bribe/extort dealings with seedy collaborators netted him $2.1 billion, or broken down on a 40-hour week, $1.1 million AN HOUR!

His corrupt, profiteering regime is riddled with corrosive conflicts of interest.  He has corrupted the pardon powers of the president by immediately pardoning over 600 violent, convicted criminals, followed by pardoning fraudsters and others to benefit his and his family’s monied interests, as well Republicans’ prospects in the coming elections. He even publicly urged Republicans to “cheat like hell.” Whether it is the notorious “MAGA Payout Fund” or the reckless dismantling of the Washington DC sites without Congressional authorization, Tyrant Trump, openly touting his dictatorship, regularly seems not to have restrained your willingness to allow him to continue what will be an even worse, more violent last two years in office against our Republic and its people.

Where is your simple compassion for his millions of victims as he continues to find more ways to wreck, weaken, and endanger Americans? (See articles on coming retaliatory drone attacks, provoked by Trump’s empire).

5. What about the obliteration of law enforcement against the Rich and Powerful? Trump has pulled the federal cops off the corporate crime beat, dismissing enforcement actions pending against accused corporations. According to Public Citizen’s October 2026 tally, his administration has canceled 212 enforcement actions against corporations, including investigations, lawsuits, and penalties. Trump has also dropped many of the IRS enforcement against widespread tax evasion by the big corporations and super-wealthy, including immunizing himself and his enriching family.

It has become open season for corporate outlaws and corporate negligence from Wall Street to Silicon Valley. Trump has disbanded the EPA’s air pollution controls, including deadly methane and coal mining particles. He has suspended fuel economy, vehicle pollution, and auto safety standards – all in violation of Congressionally mandated programs and federal statutes.

Corporate lobbyists “who pay to play” in Washington have little to do under the Trump Dump other than intensify their pressing for more tariff waivers, and more taxpayer-paid subsidies, handouts, giveaways, and bailouts from the all-time Corporate Welfare King Trump.

The stench from Dictator Donald’s political cesspool emits in all directions. From paying huge taxpayer dollars to wind power companies to drop their half-finished renewable energy projects, to his concessions to the climate destroying oil, coal, and gas companies. To his breaking government contracts and ending grants to scientists working on pandemic prevention and climate violence mitigation, to withholding funding for FEMA rescues and firefighting capabilities against spreading wildfires and their toxic pollution. To breaking union contracts with public employees, to punishing free speech with frivolous lawsuits and lawless deportations, to working on stealing elections or their certification, to espousing rampant racism, bigotry, and misogyny, to breaking records for corrupt campaign funding, to generating even more massive debts and deficits, to feeding the endless tax escapes for the plutocracy, to physically intimidating members of Congress and co-opting for unknown factors candidates like Sherrod Brown into submission… To whatever else Trump, at large in the White House, will do to destroy our country with his demonstrated dangerously unstable megalomaniacal personality. (See the April 30, 2026 Congressional Record – Statement from Medical Professionals).

How can you aid and abet the criminal Donald Trump, Sherrod Brown? This convicted felons’ grave presidential crimes keep getting worse by the day.

The corporate lawyer-dominated bar of the city of New York, after two detailed white papers on executive abuses of presidential powers, concluded in March 2026 with a demand: “Impeach Trump Now.”

Sherrod Brown owes his voters an immediate explanation of such a drastic violation of the oath members of Congress swear to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law. Constitutional historians, when asked if any of the signers of our Declaration of Independence and the Constitution would, were they here today, decline to urge Trump’s impeachment, their answer is: NONE!

You’re on the wrong side of history, Mr. Brown. Time to reverse course or incur the rising wrath of voters and your betrayed longtime supporters. (Write him at info@sherrodbrown.com.)
