Hello friend, Anti-abortion extremists, losing in the court of public opinion, are wielding lawsuits to decimate abortion rights nationwide. The state attorneys general for Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama are suing Massachusetts, New York, and California in the Supreme Court over their respective shield laws, which among other provisions, protect providers who mail the abortion medication mifepristone to patients living in states with abortion bans. Fortunately, for now, people in the US can still access mifepristone regardless of where they live. But the anti-abortion movement’s strategy of chipping away at state laws has a chilling effect, confusing patients and even providers about their rights. Those staunchly opposed to reproductive freedom may take to the courts to try to restrict abortion access. But we will loudly oppose them in the streets, in the courts, and at the ballot box this November. In better news, Idaho, Nevada, and Virginia all have ballot measures to protect abortion rights in the upcoming midterm elections. It is critical for reproductive rights supporters to get to the polls this fall and cast their votes to protect reproductive freedom for all. #Fight4HER is doing its part to get out the vote by hosting virtual phone and text banks in several key states over the next month. We’d love for you to join us as we contact voters in Arizona, Nevada, New Hampshire, and North Carolina to make a plan to vote. |
Thank you for supporting reproductive rights, freedom, and health care worldwide! |

- Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi filed a petition with a Nashville court, seeking to halt the egregious demands of Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti that Planned Parenthood release information about patients’ medical records, the clinics’ health care providers, and the organization’s donors. (Tennessee Lookout, 9/25/2026)
- Students for Life has issued a threat to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that they will sue the agency under the Endangered Species Act if it does not take steps to limit access to mifepristone within 60 days. Students for Life — suddenly and laughably claiming a deep commitment to the environment — accuses the FDA of breaking the law by failing to consult the US Fish and Wildlife Service or the National Marines Fisheries Service before approving abortion medication in 2000. (Medical Daily, 9/25/2026)
- California Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed into law the Community College Student Right to Access Act. Under this legislation, community colleges across the state will be required to offer abortion medication through their campus-based health centers, as their public university counterparts have already been required to do. The law goes into effect in 2029. (CalMatters, 9/30/2026)
- This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Hyde Amendment, which blocks federal government health plans (e.g., Medicaid and Medicare) from covering abortion, with only narrow exceptions. It forces those with the fewest resources — disproportionately Black women and other women of color — to find alternative funding sources or to cover abortion costs themselves. (Ms. Magazine, 9/30/2026)

- The Trump-Vance administration canceled $1 billion in federal funds for several US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) programs, including those serving undocumented immigrants and unaccompanied children in court and similar initiatives by the Minority Health office at HHS. (The Hill, 9/25/2026)
- About 3,400 newborns die in the United States each year from sudden unexpected infant death (SUID). According to a new study, following a two-decade decline in the difference between Black and white SUID rates, since 2020 there has been an uptick in Black SUID rates while white SUID rates have remained stable. (University of Minnesota, 9/25/2026)
- A poll from the Associated Press, in partnership with KFF, reveals that half of rural voters in the US identify with the “Make America Healthy Again” (or MAHA) movement promoted by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Yet most of these same voters do not think that the Trump-Vance administration’s health care policies benefit their communities. (KFF Health News, 9/30/2026)
- A recent poll from 19th News and YouGov found that two-thirds of Americans oppose ICE’s detainment of people who are pregnant, nursing, or postpartum. The Trump-Vance administration has not formally revoked a Biden-era policy to avoid detention of this medically vulnerable group, but pregnant, nursing and postpartum immigrants have been detained in growing numbers amidst the current crackdown. - Fiji’s government has declared a national emergency over growing rates of HIV infection in the country — currently the fastest-growing HIV epidemic in the world. Fijians who are between the ages of 20 and 34 account for two-thirds of new cases, and half of new cases in 2025 were sexually transmitted. (NPR, 9/26/2026)
- The Trump-Vance administration’s “America First Global Health Strategy” goes into effect this month. Now, in order to receive US foreign aid, countries must pledge their own funds as well and agree to share patient information with the US. Additional transactional requirements such as access to valuable minerals accompany some countries’ new aid agreements. (NPR, 10/2/2026)
- Two Polish organizations (Women Help Women and the Abortion Dream Team) created a parcel locker in Warsaw called “AbortOmat,” which distributes abortion pills to users with a secure access code. This first-of-its-kind service — located across the street from Parliament — is a direct response to the country’s near-total ban on abortion. (The Guardian, 10/4/2026)

Correction: In our September 25 Repro Rundown, we inaccurately wrote that Idaho will have a ballot initiative to limit abortion rights. Idaho is one of three states seeking to expand, not restrict, this right. |
